Tips for the Classroom: “How to Relax”

Here’s our Top 5 tips to ‘Relaxing Students in the Classroom’:

1. Dim or turn off lights, if possible.

2. Encourage them to lie on their backs, but dont be too particular about their positioning as long as they are relaxed.

3. Use calming music.

4. Ease them in and out of their relaxation session using belly breathing. Belly breathing is where they can imagine they are filling their belly with their breath like a balloon. (Slowly of course!)

5. Encourage a deeper relaxation by guiding them through a visualisation exercise. eg. Take them through an imaginery walk through the bush or ask them to visualise their favourite place where they feel safe, happy and relaxed.
